Winter Essentials for 2018
Whether you love winter or not, staying indoors and watching Netflix on the weekends will save you money, but the long colder months won’t stop your skin from drying out. Here are some tips and favorite products that will help you survive this winter season.
Hydration
The colder weather can not only make your daily commute to work unbearable, but your skin is going to suffer if you forget to hydrate and moisturize daily. Resist the urge to take hot showers. Invest in a humidifier will help combat the dry air. And drink more water to avoid getting chapped lips.
During the day you should always put on sunscreen even if it’s cloudy out. To cleanse your face, stick to cream cleansers since they won’t strip away your natural oils. And speaking of oils, don’t be afraid to layer your face with a good face oil, followed by a rich and hydrating moisturizer. My current obsession at the moment is Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. A blend of essential oils and botanicals, this oil is light but super hydrating on the skin.
Hair Maintenance
Since hot hair tools are frequently used during winter time, your hair will be dryer and prone to breakage. Give your hair the extra TLC it needs by using a hair mask once a week. If you can’t decipher which hair mask to buy, purchase the single packets. This way you can experiment with different hair masks without committing to a big tub. Shea Moisture makes really good hair masks that are free of chemicals and safe to use on color-treated hair. My favorite hair mask thus far has been the Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Treatment Masque from Shea Moisture. This hair mask is unbelievably hydrating and instantly softens your hair the moment you apply the mask.
Self Care
My final tip is to never underestimate the importance of self-care. Whether you are in desperate need of a mani and pedi or have been dying to see the new M. Night Shyamalan movie, it’s important to take the time to pamper, indulge, and relax.
So whether you love winter and the magic that snow brings, just remember you need to hydrate and moisturize if you want to keep your skin smooth and your hair silky soft. And to keep your stress levels to a minimum- take time for yourself. After all, you deserve it.
